Shopping in Peckham

Peckham’s high street is somewhat shabby and rundown but still has many of the staples such as Boots and Primark 1 minute walk from Peckham Rye. Nearby Bellenden Road has a local boutique-y feel and some great cafes. There’s a farmer’s market outside the Peckham library each Sunday morning.

The 'shabby' description of Peckham's shopping area (ie around Peckham Rye, misses the point. To me it's a vibrant mixture of Afro Caribbean ethnicity, which oozes character and intrigue. Whether it's the myriad of food shops selling everything from African giant landsnails tofoul smelling dried fish; or the nail parlours and hairdreshers that double as Caribbean social centres. There's also plenty of interesting places to eat. This is ethnic London at it's best. A fascinating place to soak up.
