I’m planning a trip around Europe and want to get the Eurail pass, but as I’ve been living in the UK for longer than six months I’m no longer eligible because I’m considered a European resident. The InterRail pass for European residents doesn’t seem to offer the same options. If I leave Europe for a weekend will my six months be reset?

| I would like to see gorillas in Uganda in December. Do you know of any good tours and is that a good time to go? Also, where would be the best and cheapest place to fly to? Do you think 10 days is enough?

| We’re visiting Devon and Cornwall for five days (driving from London). Penzance, St Ives and Newquay sound good, but we won’t have time for all three — can you recommend the best one? We aren’t surfers, we just want to experience a small coastal town, get some fresh air and eat good fish and chips.

| A group of us want to go to Amsterdam. What’s the best way to get there, where should we stay and what should we do apart from cafés, the red light district and cycling?

| My girlfriend and I are planning to drive to Timbuktu in Mali on January 11, arriving there on February 1. We need to be in Nairobi by February 13 for a safari down to Johannesburg. What’s the best way to get from Timbuktu to Nairobi in this time? We’d like to avoid flights as much as possible and would be up for hitching. We’d also like to keep costs down.
