This year’s Wanstead Fringe is back bringing a delightful selection of food, drink, performance, comedy to East London.

It’s the fourth edition of the Wanstead Fringe, and organisers have put together its most ambitious programme to welcome both local arts lovers and visitors to the neighbourhood.

Giles Wilson, Wanstead Fringe festival director, said: “This year’s Wanstead Fringe looks like being the best yet. We have a wonderful fringe ‘hub’ at the Cherry Tree café and look forward to welcoming lots of new people to our neighbourhood. Wanstead is having a great year, with a wonderful mix of new butchers, greengrocers’ cafes and brilliant new restaurants opening up. It’s the perfect time to visit our green corner of East London.”

Highlights include an open-air Kinema, a crime-writing workshop and a neighbourhood street party. A new music night at the super-cool craft beer arch venue The Wanstead Tap promises to be another highlight, with local bands playing to a crowd. Luna Blaze and the Recoupes are among the East London talent performing.

Also on the music theme, the Duke pub is hosting a special vinyl event – with a market, music and more for retro music lovers. There'll also be a mixture of local acoustic-based artists upstairs at the area's grandest watering hole, The Manor House on Friday 16 September.

Comedy, theatre and literature are probably the backbone of the Wanstead Fringe. An event sure to be popular is acclaimed Leytonstone writer John Rogers in conversation with Aldersbrook resident and Guardian journalist Hugh Muir. The two writers will be discussing the fascinating and ever changing face of London suburbs.

The Scent and Scandal event will be a multi-sensory mix of the sights, smells and drinks of Jazz Age London. Historian and local resident Lucinda Gosling is teaming up with Lizzie Ostrom of Odette Toilette (purveyor of olfactory adventures!) for the event which will tell the tales of naughty debutants and scandalous affairs.

The Wanstead Fringe, 10 – 17 September 2016.
