Their enthusiastic dance moves... The Indian folk that flocked to Goa this past Christmas (more specifically VH1 Supersonic) are not only some of the kindest, most helpful people I have been fortunate enough to meet, but also have the passion to cut a various dance move or ten. Now I must admit it’s not a move I would generally bust myself down at Fabric in London but it does come across very addictive when you find yourself delving into a frenzy across the planes of the Goan beach. If you have ever been to a festival in India you will certainly know what I’m talking about.

The residents...

India is now a hot bed for talent and Vh1 Supersonic certainly showcased those in style. The techno genre was one of the major players in the country in 2015 and 2016 is certainly set to raise the bar even further. Kohra is now a name hot to the lips of many further afield but he has stolen many a show in India and his rolling techno cuts have garnered a lot of respect through his peers.

The Production...

The levels of production across all major festivals is vastly becoming a competition to a certain aspect. VH1 Supersonic certainly set the benchmark in India with their colourful set design, heavyweight soundsystems and acrobatic dancers. As for the main stage, think Tomorrowland with a twist and for the Awakenings stage just think, well Awakenings. The Dutch outfit managed to draft in their own set design that is a mirror image of their famous set design used at the landmark show in Amsterdam. Great stuff!

The after parties…

Never ones to let the party slip away early it would be rude not to use some of the small beach bars to you every need. Not only that but once the sun comes up you get some of the best views on the planet. Furthermore when you have the likes of Paul Ritch, Luigi Madonna and Marc Tomboy coming back to spin some records for you it’s always going to be something a tad special. If you’re further up north in Goa, definitely check out Waters. A very cool location that hangs over the cliff edge. It’s beautiful and boasts an awesome soundsystem.

That little bit extra…

Like all festivals, it’s not just about the music or the site, it’s about the atmosphere what added extras there are. The VH1 Supersonic crowd were welcomed by what I liked to call the Thunderdome (rather and Igloo with some of the most insane, visually active 3D graphic I have ever seen). You would simply lay there on a bean bag for 15 minutes and watch a Russian designer warp your mind through a tunnel of detailed illustrations crossing paths with a certain history of illuminati.
