After the film’s premiere earlier this week, everyone has been going a little mental over David Fincher’s remake of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, with star Rooney Mara discussing the lengths to which she went to transform herself in to her character

Speaking to Allure magazine she revealed that she got herself a nipple piercing in order to feel more like the character she was portraying, computer hacker Lisbeth Salander.

“I thought, ‘She has it in the book, and she should have it [in the movie],” Mara explains. “Because of all the tattoos and the make up and the piercings, and the physical transformations my body has to go through, it would always feel like I was in costume, even if I was naked. It just felt like a good one to get – a necessary one to get”.

She also revealed the lengths that the production had to go to in order to accurately portray Lisbeth Salander on screen, particularly considering the number of naked scenes that the movie has.

Speaking to Metro, who quizzed her on the film’s production, she revealed she has to wear a pubic wig for the filming too.

“"There was a lot of discussion that went into my merkin for the movie, because I was naked quite a lot. And I don't think a lot of people will notice all of the attention that went into that. But there was a lot of discussions around that.

"I in the book she's meant to have strawberry-blonde hair originally and she dyes it, so we had a special merkin made that was, you know, strawberry-blonde so that it would fit."

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo co-stars Daniel Craig and Stellan Skarsgard and is released on Boxing Day courtesy of Sony  Pictures
