One match that the Russian fighter is and has been interested for a long time is against Floyd Mayweather. A fight and a rematch have been linked with jiu-jitsu specialist Tony Ferguson and Conor McGregor respectively, but the lightweight champion has set his mind on Mayweather. Discussions between Nurmagomedov and the Russian Boxing Federation have already taken place in a meeting to talk about the potential fight. Further, it is reported that Mayweather’s team had a talk for a deal with two fights.

Mayweather will face that kickboxing sensation Tenshin Nasukawa on the eve of the New Year and there is also a high chance for another Mayweather-Pacquiao fight taking place. Hence, the fight against Nurmagomedov could mean that we are in for another money fight.

The “Mayweather of MMA” claim

Nurmagomedov has often claimed that what Mayweather is to the boxing world, he is to the world of mixed martial arts. Further, he also has been intrigued by the boxer’s status of being undefeated and is very keen to change that if he gets a match against the king of pay-per-view boxing. This undefeated streak also means that there would be big money and many in the audience to watch the fight.

Nurmagomedov is ardent on dethroning the king in a match that will be watched by many spectators. If things go as per his desires, he wants the match to take place in front of a crowd of 100,000 people in Moscow.

Disciplinary issues

For all of those who watched the match between Connor McGregor and Nurmagomedov, the post-match antics that were employed by the latter were quite shocking, to say the least. Instead of celebrating the win, the UFC champion jumped out of the cage and dashed to attack McGregor’s training partner Dillon Danis. Further, while such chaos was taking place outside the ring, Nurmagomedov’s team members were seen entering the octagon to brawl with Mcgregor.

Thus, it is mandatorily required that before Nurmagomedov is finally able to close the negotiations for a fight with UFC or McGregor, he must face the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) for a disciplinary meeting pertaining to the behaviour after his victory over McGregor. It has been instructed by NSAC that the hearing will take place on the 10th of December for both McGregor and Nurmagomedov. Any failure on their part to do so would lead to a huge blow for their career as they would be restricted from ever taking part in a competition that would place in Las Vegas in the future.

What’s in it for Mayweather?

Throughout his career, the celebrity boxer has had matches against many of the big names from- Lennox Lewis, to Mike Tyson, to Manny Pacquiao and Evander Holyfield. Thus, a few more matches which include new contenders such as Nasukawa and Nurmagomedov as well as rematches with some old contenders are definitely a possibility.

Of course, fighting the new contenders is not only to secure bragging rights and honour in the world of boxing, because that is something that Mayweather already has. The Nurmagomedov match in Mayweather’s eyes would mean big money and that is something that he never has enough of.  According to reports, the Mayweather-McGregor fight brought in approximately 300 million dollars for the boxer. The recent Nurmagomedov victory over the latter would only mean that the prize money this time could be much greater.
