Glastonbury 2012 will not take place because it collides with the Olympic Games.

Organisers of the open-air music festival fear that the Games will lead to a shortage of toilets and police officers.

2012 will become one of Glastonbury's "fallow" summers, to give the land on founder Michael Eavis' farm time to recover.

Glastonbury is normally policed by 600 officers, who are expected to be needed in London for the Olympic Games.

"Michael decided to have the fallow year in 2012 and not 2011 as we would have normally," said a spokesman.

"We would not then be competing with the Olympics for infrastructure, equipment and services."
