Shayne Ward has been dropped from Simon Cowell’s record label SyCo it has been reported.

Ward, who won X Factor in 2005, has been with Cowell's label since he clinched the victory on the show, however it now appears Shayne has been ditched.

A spokesman for Syco told The Sun: "After five very successful years and an international career which saw him sell over 3.2 million records, Shayne's contract has come to an end."

Joe McElderry dropped by Simon Cowell's record label

Speaking about the reasoning behind the decision, a source said: “Shayne's a nice lad and works hard but people just don't seem to want to buy his music.”

“He doesn't fit into the categories of stuff kids buy. He'd be better off in a boyband.”

Shayne is the fourth male X Factor winner to get the chop by the SyCo label.

Three other stars - Joe McElderry, Steve Brookstein and Leon Jackson- were also given the boot by Simon Cowell.

2004 X Factor winner Steve Brookstein, who previously has criticised Simon Cowell and his “pop schlop”, has now also taken to Twitter to comment on Shayne’s departure.

He tweeted: "Cowell X Factor success rate played 7 won 1 drawn 2 lost 4. If he was a football manager he'd be sacked. No wonder he's off."

Shayne's debut song That's My Goal went platinum within a fortnight and sold more than 1.3 million copies.

Last year's X Factor winner, Matt Cardle, is now the only male from the show left on Cowell's label. Watch this space...
