An award that has been won in the past by Adele, Ed Sheeran and James Bay, went to another solo artist this year, but unlike past years, it was the turn of Grime to be represented at the music industry’s recognition of great songwriters.

Skepta, who has encapsulated a big following through grime, took home two awards at the London show. He was presented with his songwriter of the year award by his sister, radio dj Julie Adenuga. The Mercury Prize winner then followed that up with winning Best Contemporary song for Man.

Other winners include Coldplay who took Most Performed Work for song Hymn for The Weekend, Florence and The Machine won International Achievement Award and Britpop band, Pulp, took the Outstanding Song Collection Award.

Other winners –

Best Song Musically/Lyrically – Michael Kiwanuka – Black Man in a White World

Best Album – Laura Mvula – The Dreaming Room

Special International Award – Bill Withers

Lifetime Achievement Award – Nitin Sawhney

Outstanding Contribution to British Music – Anne Dudley
