I think air asia have some pretty good deals on at the moment. Also if you search www.opodo.co.uk or www.expedia.co.uk you should find some return flight for around £500 or a bit less. Good luck!

Have you sussed out Air Asia yet? From all accounts you can get fantastically cheap fares (£99) to places like Malayasia and then book an onward trip to Melbourne. If you've got time to spare and don't mind a stopover, I'd say it's worth a try.

Pure luck but Ive been hunting for ages and just found an amazing deal with Round the World Experts to OZ or NZ for £400 including taxes!!! I couldnt stand Air Asia for 23 hrs... and for the same price this is a bargain. I think you have to leave between Sept and end Nov.. but check them out!

It really depends on when you want to travel. I am going back to Melbourne for Christmas and the best fare I could find a month or two ago was just over £1000 return (with Malaysia Airlines). If I had been able to go a few weeks earlier it would have saved me £250.

Of the full service airlines, the cheapest appears to be Etihad, via Abu Dabi.
