    Re: Brazil intinerary suggestions?

I recently spent 7 weeks in Brazil and could have spent far longer - it's such a great country!  With 17 days there is plenty you can see, but it will depend on whether you want to pay for flights or not to cover the distances - and even the long-distance buses aren't cheap.  Not far south of Rio you can check out Ilha Grande, which is an island with beautiful beaches, great snorkelling and best of all, no cars!  Paraty is a nice colonial town a bit further down the coast.  Florianopolis has abundant beaches and you can choose whether to party or go somewhere quiet.  If you can make it to Foz do Igaucu (Iguazu Falls) on the border with Argentina, you'll never forget it - it's one of the most awe-inspiring sights in South America!  We also went north of Rio and inland to see Brasilia and the Pantanal - let me know if you want any other suggestions!

Thanks for your response!! We are planning to get the airpass and were thinking of flying rio > foz do > cuiaba > salvador > rio. A lot to squeeze in i know so perhaps some advice on what is realistic. With Salvador, the plan would be to get to Lencois and do some hikes but that is quite far from Salvador so would consider that if we didn't go to Pantanal. I've been told Morro de Sao Paulo and Barra Grande are nice. With Pantanal, what would be the minimum time we should allow for it?

Back to Rio, how do Buzios, Ilha Grande and Paraty compare with each other? Which two would you choose out of those three?

Depending when you are going really.

However, Foz do Igaucu is a must, Salvador, and one of the North East cities like, Natal or Fortaleza.

If you do have time Florianopolis Island is a must, a beautifull island south of Sao Paulo.

    Have a great time!

Depends what you want. Foz do Igaucu are amazing but its a long way to travel just for waterfalls and if you only have 17 days but if you like hiking and a short trip to Argintina and Parugay its alright plus Pantanal isn't too far. If you are going for the beach, bars, music and party skip Foz do Iqauca and head north to Salvador, Reciefe, Natal..... or south to Florianopolis, SC, Ilha do Mel and the souther states (I much prefer the south). Sao Paulo is another amazing city if you have the time and like big cities.
