send money home

You've probably spent most of your money on holidays in Europe or beers down the pub, but hopefully you've saved a little bit of cash to help you get settled back home.

If you are lucky enough to have saved some money while in you've been living in the UK, you'll probably want to sent it home to Australia, New Zealand or South Africa, especially if you're closing your UK bank account.

There are a few ways to send your money home safely.

Transfer agents

The cheapest way to send money home is through an international transfer agent such as TNT Forex. TNT Forex offers lower fees, quicker transfer times, a secure online server and excellent rates.

Banks

Standard payments take three days minumum to arrive. Fees vary, but budget about £10 per transfer. International money orders start at about £8, plus commission.

If you're not in a big hurry, there's another way that is much cheaper than the banks. Set up a PayPal account linked to your UK account, and (if you don't already have one) an Australian (or wherever) PayPal account linked to your Aussie bank account. You can then transfer the funds electronically between them for £3.50 - and you get to choose the instant when you want to convert from pounds to dollars, thereby getting the best exchange rate.

I use 1st Contact to transfer my money home and they are awesome! I can use my debit card online and the funds reach my account in SA with in 2 days.
If you are with the Commonwealth Back back in Aus then I would suggest joining their migration branch in the UK. I received 3 free transfers with an excellent exchange rate...After your first 3 free they are £15 per transfer but if you are moving home for good...3 transfers might just be enough for you too :)

I'd recommend to shop around - there is a company called HiFX and they will do transfers for FREE!!!! and they give a better exchange rate! I use them to pay my mortgage back home and have saved heaps!
TNT Forex is a great way to send money to South Africa.
