As time passes, dust accumulates in any mattress. Therefore, everyone has to get insight into how to clean it. There are plenty of reasons for bedding contamination, and if it does not protect the mattress from getting dirty, do not rush to buy a new one.

How to Deal With Diverse Fillings

Fillers react variously to the amount of water used when cleaning. Moisture is strictly contraindicated for some mattresses; others are not recommended to be placed vertically. Before buying one, check out iComfort mattress reviews, as well as you have to figure out how to properly handle an item before you start cleaning.

l  Wadded mattress

These mattresses are the simplest in design, they belong to the economy segment, but require no less care than expensive ones. Its basis is cotton wool packed in a durable cover made of calico or teak. Wadding has the ability to absorb and retain odors for a long time. Therefore, to maintain the freshness of a cotton mattress, it must be aerated at least 1 time per month.

A cotton-filled mattress may be subject to deep wet cleaning. But bear in view that the cotton wool inside can dry out for a long time. Therefore, the less water is used when cleaning, the faster the product can be used again.

l  Coconut coir mattress

Manufacturers of such products recommend applying dry cleaning exclusively. To prevent dirt from entering deep layers of the filler, use a special pad. Wash the cover only at minimum temperatures on a delicate cycle and no more than 1 time in 2 months. The best care for such a mattress is to systematically vacuum it from all sides, as well as aerate it. At the same time, aerate the mattress only in a horizontal position.

l  Spring-loaded latex and coconut mattresses

Orthopedic spring options are the most durable regarding in-service life and the most finicky in operation requirements. They must be turned over at least 1 time in 2 weeks while changing not only the top-bottom position but also the head-legs one.

Despite the general characteristics, each mattress manufacturer on jonsguide.org can give their recommendations on mattress care related to the peculiarities of its production.

Helpful Methods

The sooner you find dirt and start acting, the more effective the result will be. Blot the spilled liquid with a clean rag or paper towel, then use one of the following options.

l  Red wine. Sprinkle the stained area with sodium chloride or soda. After a few minutes, wash it with a damp sponge.

l  Coffee. Use 1 tsp. ammonia and 1 cup of water, apply on the coffee stain, rinse in a few minutes.

l  Chewing gum. Freeze the gum with a piece of ice. When it hardens, gently scrape it off with a blunt side of the knife, then wipe it with alcohol through blotting paper.

If brown stains appear during washing, bleach these areas with detergent without colored granules.
