Check out the eight best events in the capital this bank holiday week, from Family Matters to a Marylebone photo competition.
The daughter of portrait artist Lucian Freud and great-granddaughter of Sigmund, Jane McAdam Freud presents this latest collection of her work exploring familial relationships, both her own and in wider culture. Among the works that comprise this exhibition are portrayals of her half sister, husband and children, a sculpture that combines both her face and Lucian’s to illustrate their facial similarity, and a large scale relief of her father, based on sketches McAdam Freud made of him at his deathbed.

This is the day that independent record stores, artists and the public get together to celebrate music, and stick it to the man. The London party for movie website Spill brings together members from the international Spill community for a party that kicks off in the afternoon at Miabella in Soho and goes on into the small hours. There’s a VIP section, a happy hour that runs till 10pm, and US DJ Milez spinning the best tunes.

This cheese-tastic South Bank festival offers those who like a bit of brie with their glass of wine the chance to sample some tastes they may not otherwise encounter. Boasting more than 35 stalls with offerings from as far afield as South America, there’s cheese-making demonstrations and a wine-tasting masterclass.

Robert Redford brings his independent cinema-supporting film fest to the UK, with screenings, interview panels and special events to sate the most ravenous cinema hound’s appetite. The top 14 movies from the US fest make their UK premiere, including Paul Dano’s For Ellen and Julie Delpy’s 2 Days In New York, with live performances from Placebo (Apr 28), Tricky (Apr 27) and Rufus and Martha Wainwright (Apr 29).

To enter the competition, photographers, both amateur and professional alike, have to snap their best shot of local Marylebone life celebrating St George’s Day on April 23. Photographs must be taken during the weekend of April 21-23. Up to three images can be submitted until midnight of April 27. The 50 best photographs will be displayed at the annual Art in Marylebone exhibition on 21-24 June this year.
