Viva Espana

One of our favourite London pubs has reopened for business – The Spaniards Inn near Hampstead Heath, which dates back to 1585, has had a little refurb and replenished its shelves with a fresh selection of ales, wines and whiskeys, bringing in the likes of US craft brews and quality ciders, among others.

Plus, there’s a new menu, with the chuck and bone marrow burger and seasonal pies particularly piquing our interest.

Even better, this cosy corner – immortalised in both Charles Dickens’ The Pickwick Papers and Bram Stoker’s Dracula – now offers beer and food pairing. Yes, please.

Wine and win

Combine wine tasting with a spot of healthy competition at Le Cafe Anglais in Bayswater, which launches its ‘Whose wine is it anyway?’ night on March 4.

You’ll be served five wines (matched with antipasti, bonus) and then enter into a knock-out quiz with fellow competitors. The winner takes home a bottle of Bollinger.

Plus, it’s BYO if you want to stay on for dinner.

Tickets are £30 and the battle commences at 6.45pm.

Ethical Eats

It’s Fairtrade Fortnight from Feb 25 until March 10, so what better time to launch London’s first fairtrade bar and cafe, Fairly Square?

This Holborn joint only serves food and drink that has been ethically traded and sustainably sourced, and even the decor is made from ecologically sustainable materials.

Go and gorge for the greater good.
