But this financial centre of the city isn’t all fur-lined, gold-embossed offices. Even the filthy rich need refuelling from time to time on their way to premature burn-out and the area has a wealth of unique cafes, sweet shops and bars to discover.

Here, courtesy of SACO Apartments, are a dozen – including a joint run by Auissie siblings – you might consider next time your pay check (presumably without share divis and bonuses) arrives.

Plateau Restaurant

Serving French cuisine, Plateau is both affordable and luxury rolled in one. With its modest priced menu and unique luxurious setting it is the perfect place to grab a quick bite to eat, share a romantic meal with a loved one or entertain clients. Head chef Daniel McGarey is a Michelin trained chef so you can expect perfection on a plate.

Obicà Mozzarella Bar

If you love Italian cuisine and mozzarella then this is the place for you. Obicàis is a unique concept that serves fresh, light Italian dishes that of course, have a major focus on Mozzarella. This quirky bar not only has great food but a lovely selection of wines making it ideal to grab a bite to eat or enjoy a drink (or two).

Boisdale of Canary Wharf

The Boisdale not only has an exciting atmosphere with its live music but is also a luxurious place to dine. Think Cigar terrace and library, oyster and caviar bar overlooking the Thames and gourmet Scottish cuisine. If oyster and caviar isn’t your thing, they also have a whisky bar with a very impressive selection.  This is the perfect place to entertain clients or spoil a loved one.

Paul

Paul is a French family run Bakery and Patisserie that has been passed down through five generations. With their strong passion for freshly baked goods Paul offers a range of delicious food perfect for lunch or as a treat.

Corney & Barrow

Corney & Barrow is a cool and sophisticated bar located right on the water front in Cobat Square. Renowned for its summer time barbeques and champagne breakfasts, it’s the perfect place for after work drinks or client meetings. It offers British brasserie style food and first class drinks with a find wine selection.

Smollensky’s

Known as the place for cocktails in Canary Wharf, Smollensky offer their ever-popular 2-4-1 cocktails between 6pm-8pm. Having a birthday? This, coupled with being able to book an area of the bar for free, makes it the perfect place for a birthday night out!

Want quality food and excellent coffee, then Aposthrope needs to be on your radar. Music is an important part of Aposthrope, they work with musicians to come up with bespoke playlists made up of an eclectic mix of genres, including contemporary deep house, nu-jazz, Latin rhythms, lounge grooves and Afrobeat. For those who are looking for a social space or simply a place to relax, this is the perfect place.
