Wimbledon - it's not just about the tennis and the strawberries and cream (though they're both so good). Here's a list of some of Wimbledon's best pubs, guaranteed to show you another side to the home of the All England Lawn Tennis Clu

The Crooked Billet

This pub ticks all the right boxes for a good ol’ traditional English pub; with cosy corners, exposed brickwork and an abundance of character, it’s a no brainer why punters flock here. There’s been a brewery on the site since the beginning of the 16th century – the current pub dates back to the 1770s. The Crooked Billet values a ‘perfectly poured pint’, and prides themselves on their diverse wine list. Make sure you check out the weekly pub quiz on Monday nights too for some classic pub fun.

Best Bit: Borrow a picnic rug and cosy up on the Billet Green with a pitcher of Pimm’s in the summer.

The Fox and Grapes

Since French chef Claude Bosi’s team has taken over, this gastro pub has become a recipe for success. Whilst it may not be the first place you’d consider for a quick pint, Bosi achieves that delicate gastro pub balance between normal pub grub and Michelin star cuisine. Their menus celebrate the Best of British, and change with the seasons. Expect to pay Wimbledon prices, but the food and the service make it worth it.

Best Bit: The food!

 The Rose and Crown

Famous for its historic background (it’s been around since 1659) and its wide range of award-winning beers, the Rose and Crown is another popular Wimbledon haunt. Favourite beers include Young’s Bitter and Young’s Special. Also check out the guest ales making special appearances throughout the year, and in particular, Bombardier. If you’re a tennis fan, this is probably the closest public house to all the action at the All England Lawn Tennis Club. Every year they set up a marquee with a large screen projector to watch the tournament. The marquee also plays host to a live DJ every weekend night during the championship.

Best Bit: Its traditional homely feel

 The Alexandra

It’s known as Wimbledon’s liveliest pub for a reason. This Young’s brewery-owned joint stocks a plethora of hand-pulled real ales, beers and all the brand leaders in lager and stouts. Their wine list is pretty varied too. A firm favourite with the locals, their hearty pub grub is also top-notch because they don’t ‘pile food up in silly stacks’ or ‘mess about with tiny portions’. The rooftop terrace makes for the perfect summer setting, and DJs regularly play a wide range of ‘toe-tapping’ tunes at the weekends.

Best Bit: Sign up to their mailing list now and bagsy a voucher for a free drink!

 The Fire Stables

This friendly pub offers its visitors a freshly prepared menu of British classics and a variety of high quality beers and ales. Ingredients are so fresh that they’re actually grown in the vegetable patch behind the kitchen. A prime Wimbledon Village location and one of the best Sunday roasts around – what’s not to like?

Best Bit: The HUGE yorkshire puddings
