The National Theatre’s river stage welcomes Latitude festival as they venture from their established Suffolk base to bring a heady mix of music, theatre, dance and literature to the South Bank for an unforgettable weekend of free performances from Friday 5 – Sunday 7 August 2016.
Musical thrills will come from comedy drag Country and Western star Tina C on Friday, performing her biggest hits from albums No Dick’s as Hard as My Life and Not Tonight Darlin’, I Got a Heartache. Disco Shed will be taking the best elements of modern clubbing and disguising it amongst all the stuff you’d find in your dad’s shed, to make a truly unique entertainment space and novel curiosity, guaranteed to intrigue and interest, amuse and amaze.
On Saturday, Action to the Word’s electrifying adaptation of A Midsummer Night’s Dream will bring their dynamic, exciting and shocking theatre style to the South Bank. How It Ended in association with Scamp Theatre will present two heart-warming adaptations of Emily Hughes’ popular children’s book The Little Gardener. ‘Take a seat, don’t worry, there’s nothing to be scared of’ - the wild, bold, visual performance of The Eye Test by Nigel Barrett and Louise Mari joins the stage to make Saturday a wonderful and intriguing day out.
Saturday evening sees hip-hop dancer and choreographer Botis Seva perform with his company Far from The Norm followed by a rave with DJ Sweetpea hosted by Deefa MC alongside Luke Barnes, Benin City, Omar El-Khairy, Jemima Foxtrot, TEAfilms and Monsay Whitney.
Sunday sees pet fetishists display their world of human-animal bonding and invite you to take part. I’m not sure what that’s all about either, but I know one thing, there’s only one way to find out.
