Arts organisation UP Projects has announced their London 2015 summer programme of events, the floating cinema 21 August – 20 September.

UP Projects has curated a great looking programme of screenings and events exploring the realms of outer space through the prisms of art, science, film, literature, visual arts and music.

The Extra-Terrestrial programme explores our relationship with outer space, delving into future worlds, probing the ambitions and desires represented in the historical human pursuit for race for space travel and our enduring fascination with alien lifeform. Featuring open-air screenings of sci-fi cult classics and rarities, a summer space school and a series of on-board talks bringing together scientists, writers, thinkers and enthusiasts, the programme weaves between the absurd and the factual to create an immersive space odyssey packed full of conspiracy theories, alien invasions, cutting-edge science and future hopes and dreams.

Programme highlights include, two open air weekenders in Three Mills, Bow and Granary Square in King’s Cross exploring others on earth and humans in space.

Other events range from open-air screenings of artist Shezad Dawood’s 2013 film Piercing Brightness and sci-fi cult classics The Day the Earth Stood Still and Flash Gordon.

The programme features artist Hefin Jones’ take on home-grown space travel with a workshop asking participants to design their own space colonisation using the tools and resources available to them in their daily lives and canal con, the floating cinema’s homage to the wonders and oddities of the international comic con conventions.
