Australian comedian Josh Thomas has found himself in hot water for a tweet about Tony Abbott’s mother.

The comedian and TV star (he wrote and stars in Please Like Me) tweeted the opposition leader’s own account, saying: “Stop the boats? I would prefer it if you stopped YO MOMMA from comin’ round my place at night for sex. #Political”

Many quickly rounded on the 26-year old for his remarks, accusing him of cheap laughs at someone else’s expense.

Thomas, who has long been an outspoken critic of Abbott and his policies, has been unmoved by it all and later Tweeted himself: “Saying a joke isn’t funny is like saying that because you don’t like olives they are not delicious.”
