Victoria Police detectives want to talk to a man who was seen talking to missing ABC employee Jill Meagher in Melbourne early on Saturday morning (Australian time).

The man in a blue hoodie is seen on CCTV footage, released by police, walking past the camera outside a fashion boutique and then casually speaking to Meagher.

The missing woman is seen holding her phone as she walked towards her home after drinks at a bar in Sydney Road, Brunswick.

This is the last footage found of the 29-year-old since she was reported missing after she didn’t return home following the night out.

Six other people were sighted walking past the store and detectives would like them to come forward.

"We're interested in talking to anyone who was in the Sydney Road area," Detective Inspector XXX Potter told ABC.

"We're particularly interested in talking to a man in a blue top who's depicted in the footage and appears to be talking to Jillian.

"There may be a rational explanation to what's happened but he certainly could help us."

After spending several hours at Meagher’s home and in light of new CCTV images, police now believe it's possible she was abducted.

“We haven't been able to rule that out at all and in fact we are looking more and more at that as a possibility," he said.
