Zombies are so hot right now – the latest high-profile occurrence, a man eating another’s face off, leading to a rush of the sale of special zombie bullets in the US.
And Aussies are getting onto the spirit, too.
As part of a hidden camera prank, Melbourne man Alki Stevens dressed up in a zombie mask and carried a gory fake brain to terrorise strangers in the western suburb of Caroline Springs yesterday.
"I've just always loved zombies and I wanted to see if people would think it was real and how scared they would get," the 25-year-old said.
But if there was a funny side to Steven’s antics, few failed to see it.
"People got really scared and a few girls even started crying until I explained," Mr Stevens said.
"I had a few that I didn't put in the video where the guys got really upset. There were two or three times when I thought I'd get punched or tackled."
The internet is awash with fears of a zombie apocolypse current, prompted by the aforementioned cannibal attack on a Miami freeway. In light of the fears, Stevens was lucky to escape with a few threats.
Police shot dead 31-year-old Rudy Eugene when they found him eating the face of 65-year-old Ronald Poppo beside the freeway on May 26.
Soon after, another prankster ran Miami pretending to be a zombie – and had a gun pulled on him.
