A report into Australia's youth will suggest that young Aussies are underemployed and fat, and too many are falling pregnant during their teens.
Despite the country's strong economy, one in six are not in employment or education and one in three is overweight or obese.
The Australian teenage pregnancy rate is also well above the national average according to the Australian Research Alliance for Children and Youth report.
The report will be released in Federal Parliament later today.
News.com.au reports that when compared with similar countries the study shows Australia isn't going enough to combat youths dying of preventable injuries, tacking youth suicide and vaccination.
Whilst only 15 per cent of Aussie kids are raised in jobless families, one in six are still said to be living in poverty.
However the report also suggests that there are inconsistencies across the nation, with some areas show marked improvement and other going backwards.
Public Health expert Professor Fiona Stanley, AC, said rising rates of inequality across society were "driving the negatives and dulling the positives".
