Thai authorities have closed the island of Koh Tachai, as mass tourism is having a negative affect on the environment.

"We have to close it to allow the rehabilitation of the environment both on the island and in the sea without being disturbed by tourism activities before the damage is beyond repair," Tunya Netithammakul, director general of the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plants Conservation, said to the Bangkok Post.

A beach on Koh Tachai, suitable for around 70 people attracts more than 1,000 visitors a dayThe island can not  sustain capacity and  will close before damage becomes irreversible.

Most of the Thai marine national parks close for monsoon season, but it has been reported that Koh Tachai will not reopen.
