A sprinkling of snow falling in Essex and some parts of Greater London this morning has led to the closure of Stansted airport's runway as well as smiling faces for children at more than 30 Essex schools which have been closed for the day.
Stansted's runway is currently being cleared - a airport spokesman has announced it will be reopened as soon as possible, reports the BBC.
"Flights are being held as we clear the runway of snow but we expect to re-open the runway soon. The mornings are busiest at the airport so there could be a knock on effect and delays to flights this morning." a spokesman for London's 3rd biggest airport said, according to Reuters.
Luton airport was also affected earlier but has been reopened since 8am. More snow is expected across Essex.
The conditions have led to chaos on the roads, with traffic jams and more than 45 crashes reported this morning.
Heathrow, Gatwick and London City airport are all operating as normal.
Delays have occured this morning on London Underground - Central, Bakerloo, Metropolitan and Victoria lines are affected, as well as the Overground line.
