A neighbour to a nursery in Wellington became the man of the hour after he raised the alarm and helped save a baby that had been left behind by accident.

Anton Sharp, who lives next to the Samoan early education Development Service in Porirua said:

“I sort of left it for a couple of minutes because I am used to them crying.

“Then I realised it was a bit late and there were no cars around. I was a bit shocked.”

Mr Sharp helped another neighbour to get in and save the nine-month old baby. The child had been left on his own for between 40 minutes and an hour, it is suspected.

An investigation is currently being carried out in to how this mistake could have happened.
