A 7.1 magnitude earthquake has struck off the North Island's East Cape, triggering tsunami concerns.
The quake, 130km north-east of Te Araroa, where an earthquake struck the day before, was felt from Northand to Wellington in the North Island, and in the top of the South Island.
The earthquake prompted a tsunami warning, 30 cm waves were recorded.
So far 100 aftershocks have been felt.
The region where the Australia plate meets the Pacific plate has a history of generating large magnitude quakes and tsunami.
