Hollywood filmmaker James Cameron has been working with Disney on bringing a new interactive theme park experience based on his science fiction blockbuster movie Avatar.

“From the moment we released Avatar, there was this amazing visceral response from people around the world that they wanted to go to Pandora,” Cameron explains in a video in which he talks about the new project – Avatar Land.

The new immersive theme park will allow people to travel to Pandora, the famous planet from the movie which is known for its bioluminescent colours and towering mountains. As well as this interactive experience, there will also be rides and shows based on the film, reports Time magazine.

James Cameron is working on the project with Disney to bring the project to reality, the filmmaker’s special effects team working on creating the technology to bring the fantastic lands seen in the movie to life.

“In my wildest imagination growing up I never thought that something I created would live inside a Disney theme park,” explains Cameron from the motion capture sound stage of the three sequels he is working on to Avatar.

Avatar was released in 2009 and went on to become the world’s highest grossing film of all time, taking more than $2.7 billion dollars at the global box office. Cameron is currently working on three more Avatar movies to be released in 2016, 2017 and 2018.
