An unnamed punter has turned eight Australian cents (about 5p) into a whopping $77,000 (£50,272) after she tipped the first four finishers in the Melbourne Cup earlier today.
The first-time online customer with Sportsbet.com.au a total of $1.92 (£1,25) on several combinations, but it was one wager of 8c on the first four - Green Moon, Fiorente, Jakkalberry and Kelinni – which returned the staggering odds of 969,406 to one.
Sportsbet.com.au spokesperson Shaun Anderson told News.com.au that it was an “amazing bet, made even more extraordinary given it was their first ever bet with us."
The winner Green Moon won $3.6m for its connections out of the race’s $6.2m total prize pool.
Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall presented the winning trophy to owner Lloyd Williams’ son Nick.
