He might not get it this season, but Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal says he wants to win the title after watching his side demolish QPR.

Speaking after his new look side's impressive 4-0 win, the Dutch master said: "I want to win the Premier League title. If it is not this year, then the second or third year. I want to give a championship to the fans."

Record-signing Angel Di Maria opened the scoring on his debut, his free-kick creeping into the far corner, before goals from Ander Herrera and Wayne Rooney all but ended the contest before half time.

Juan Mata scored the fourth after Di Maria fluffed a shot and Falcao made his debut as a 67th-minute sub.

The win takes United up to 9th, seven points behind leaders - and title favourites - Chelsea who won 4-2 at home against Swansea on Saturday thanks to a hattrick from Spain striker Diego Costa.

Champions Man City currently find themselves in 5th place after drawing 2-2 away to Arsenal, while Aston Villa's superb early season form continued with a fine 0-1 win against Liverpool at Anfield.

Propping up the table is Newcastle, beaten 4-0 by Southampton. Winless and, if reports in the press are to be believed, soon to be manager-less, only Mike Ashley knows if Alan Pardew will be in the dugout for the side's clash against Hull on Saturday.
