He's a World Cup, Euro, Champions League and La Liga winner, so no shock it didn't take long for David Villa to open his account in the A-League.

The former Barcelona and Atletico Madrid star scored after about an hour to earn Melbourne City a 1-1 draw with Sydney FC in their season opener.

It was another former top flight star, Damien Duff (Chelsea, Blackburn, Fulham, Newcastle), who provided the assist.

Villa picked up a neat ball from Duff before he casually ducked inside his defender and buried the finish from the top of the box in a treat of class for the A-League fans.

Villa is on loan at the club formerly known as the Heart but renamed after they were bought by Manchester City's owners.

After his stint in Victoria, which looks likely to be a fruitful one of the new club, he'll move to his parent club New York City as they begin their life in the MLS.
