Lewis Hamilton wants to be viewed as one of F1's all time greats and he took a huge step towards that with a massive victory at the Silverstone Grand Prix.

After a difficult day on Saturday when he qualified a disappointing sixth on the grid, the British driver’s luck turned on Sunday and his determined performance gave his championship hopes a real boost - he is now just four points behind teammate Nico Rosberg.

The German had looked like winning the race until he hit gearbox difficulties on lap 47 which forced him to retire, allowing Hamilton to take the lead and maximum points.

But this race wasn't just about the Mercedes pair, and nor was it dull. It was action-packed with mayhem from the start as the race was red-flagged following a heavy crash involving Ferrari's Kimi Raikkonen – it led to an hour’s delay.

It was Hamilton's 27 career win, with Valtteri Bottas in second and Daniel Ricciardo in third. Jenson Button finished in fourth just 0.8 seconds behind the Australian.
