Team GB smashed through their target of 103 medals last night in emphatic fashion as Jonnie Peacock stormed to gold in the Men’s 100m T44, David Weir secured the same in the T54 88m and Hannah Cockroft won the T34 200m gold, too.

Peacock stormed though in the men’s T44 100m final to not only beat the former title holder Oscar Pistorius, who finished fourth, but to do so by setting a new Paralympic record of 10.90 seconds as well.

“This is absolutely amazing,” Peacock told BBC Radio 5 Live after his win. “I’d have liked to have run a little bit quicker, but I did enough to hold on.”

David Weir has a tough test in the T54 800m as China’s Zhang Lixin took the lead from the first lap and held it all the way through to a mere 80m from the finish line where Weir’s strength, determination and experience saw him come through to nail gold in front of a capacity 80,000 fans.

Hannah Cockroft started Thursday’s track gold medal haul by winning the T34 200m in a Paralympic record time of 31.90 to kick-start a superb evening on the track for Team GB as they surpassed their medal target of 103 (one more than the 102 they won in Beijing 2008).
