An announcement is expected next Tuesday in which London 2012 and Beijing 2008 swimming star Rebecca Adlington could announce her retirement.

Adlington’s manager Rob Woodhouse has said it will be a big announcement for the 23-year old.

Adlington swam to glory at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, collecting two gold medals in the pool and followed this up with two bronze medals at last summer’s follow up Games in London, out of a Team GB swimming haul of just three medals.

She spoke out in December about British Swimming though, commenting on the fall out from the team’s perceived poor performance at London 2012 and the ensuing review into its achievements.

She has been busy since raising money for an African charity that helps orphans with Aids, and is expected to make an announcement in the next few days about her future activities.
