Nico Rosberg has extended his lead at the top of the drivers' championship after holding on for victory over teammate Lewis Hamilton at the Austrian Grand Prix.

But it wasn't without controversy, conspiracy theorists claiming Mercedes had deliberately botched both of Hamilton's pit stops for Rosberg to win.

"Obviously it is frustrating when you lose time," Hamilton, who had a brilliant first lap in which he jumped from ninth to fourth, said.

Rosberg said he was happy to win.

"It wasn't an easy race... but i had a fast car and it's great to win."

The win leaves Rosberg 29 points ahead of Hamilton in the championship, with the British Grand Prix up next.

Drive of the day came from Mexican Sergio Perez, who came from 16th to finish sixth, while quadruple F1 world champion Sebastian Vettel, who started in 12th, retired on the first lap following a mechanical problem, his bad luck returning on Red Bull's home Grand Prix. It is his third DNF of the season.

Aussie Daniel Ricciardo, who won last time out in Canada, finished eight.
