Samantha Stosur has crashed out in the first round of Wimbledon, going down in straight sets to unseeded Belgian Yanina Wickmayer.
Australia's No 1, seeded 17th at the grass-court major, was beaten 6-3 6-4 in just 69 minutes to add to her continued nightmare run at the All England Club where she's never made it past round three.
This loss makes it six times Stosur, a former US Open champion, has fallen in the opening match of the tournament.
Just days before Wimbledon Stosur split from her coach Miles Maclagan but she said it wouldn't have an impact on her Wimbledon campaign.
Stosur was in good enough form to crush seven first-set aces but her serve was still broken twice - the first in the opening game of the match - by the world No 69.
Stosur missed two break points in the first game of the second set but couldn't take advantage of the opening - before she knew it Wickmayer was 5-2 up and on the road to victory.
The Aussie did rally however, pulling the match back on serve but the Belgian wrested back the ascendency when she broke Stosur’s serve for a fourth time.
Wickmayer now faces the winner of New Zealand's Marina Erakovic or Croatia's Ana Konjuh in the second round.
