Belgium’s Luca Brecel shocked the sport by winning the inaugural world ranking event – China Championship.

The 22 year-old who burst on to the scene a few seasons back by making the world championships and getting to the UK Championships quarter finals finally got a break by getting to the German Masters final 2 seasons ago.

This time, he went one better and won the final against England’s Shaun Murphy after beating top 16 players Marco Fu and Ronnie O’Sullivan along the way.

Murphy, who came into the final having been Ali Carter in the semi-final, started the final ok going into the early mid-session interval at 3-1 up.

But the Grove Snooker stable player came into the match and dominated the final to win the 10-5 and land his first ranking title and a cheque for £150,000.

Murphy who went straight from Guangzhou to Germany for the Paul Hunter Classic, continued his fine form by making the final.

Again, he finished runner-up to Welsh player, Michael White, who beat him 4-2 to land his second ranking title victory.

The former Indian Open champion, made breaks of 83 and 97 to pip the 2005 world champion to the title in Furth.
