An opening stand of 113 off just eight overs from David Warner and Aaron Finch set Australia on the way to a three-run victory in their warm-up World Twenty20 match against New Zealand in Fatullah, Bangladesh.

Warner's 65 from 26 balls and Finch's 47 from 22 showed true form before they were both retired in the friendly match.

NZ were set a standard 7-200 but were kepy to 9-197, despite strong work with the bat from Martin Guptill (62 from 34 balls) and Brendon McCullum (37 from 18).

The Black Caps were in control needing 17 from the last 12 balls, but the loss of four wickets ended the contest.

Nathan Coulter-Nile's 2-5 in the last over proved match-winning.

To continue their preparations, the sides then played a five-over practice match. Australia won that too, chasing down the Black Caps' 29 runs in three overs.

Australia's first match of the tournament against Pakistan is on Sunday in Dhaka.
