A wonderful performance led England to World Cup glory by beating India by 9 runs at Lords.

A packed crowd in North London, see the hosts, who had lost to India, in the earlier group stages, struggle early on in cloudy conditions.

A great partnership between Natalie Sciver who made 51 and wicketkeeper Sarah Taylor who made 45, got England up to 228-7.

India in reply started well on the run chase, mainly due to a diligent 86 from Punum Raut. But England’s bowler Anya Shrubsole took the key wicket of Raut as she went through the India batting line-up to finish with 6-46, and leave India devastated in their hopes of becoming world champions.

For the new look England side coached by Mark Robinson, winning the world cup for a fourth time reflects a new era for English women’s cricket. The next challenge is a trip to Australia in October to regain the Ashes.

Returning in August is the Kia Super League. The August 10th start goes through the month finishing with finals day at Hove on September 1st.

2016 winners Southern Vipers will be hoping to defend the title again, lead by former England skipper Charlotte Edwards.
