Ryanair staff have been deemed the least attractive in a survey of British holidaymakers, while Virgin Atlantic’s flight crews were crowned best looking.

The budget Irish airline garnered just 5 per cent of the vote, while Virgin scooped an impressive 21 per cent, with Thomas Cook in second on 19 per cent.

EasyJet proved you can still be cheap without being ugly by beating British Airways into third place.

The question formed part of wider study into British holidaymakers' satisfaction rates, conducted by the JetCost flight comparison website.

57 per cent of those questioned said they thought it was important for airlines to employ attractive people. When asked why, more than half said because it "gave off a better impression of the airline".

While 23 per cent said attractive staff made for a more pleasant in-flight experience.

Some 13 per cent of correspondents even suggested that “looks” ought to be the most important factor when appointing flight staff.

The news will cap a tough week for Ryanair after an advert for the company was banned for being sexist.
