Crockett the cat spent five days trapped inside a three-seater sofa before being discovered by the chair’s new owners.
The sofa had been given away by Bill and Pauline Lowe to St Luke’s Hospice charity shop in Grays, Essex.
The couple believe that the ten-year-old tabby climbed inside the sofa shortly before they donated it, finding himself in a sticky situation - and his worried owners were very upset when they realised Crockett was missing.
According to David Emery from St Luke’s, the sofa went through all the routine checks before being taken to the charity shop and sold. It is unclear how the cat in the couch evaded staff members.
The new owners of the sofa soon noticed their purchase was purring, and decided to investigate further.
Manager of St Luke’s, Jenni Munro, said: “They heard a soft miaow sound, and saw two claws poking out of the material which moved away when touched."
However, Crockett hadn't made his release easy - in order to free him, material under the sofa had to be ripped as he had wedged himself into the back of the sofa.
He is now safely back with the Lowes. Sofa, so good.
