Australian entertainer and artist Rolf Harris has been charged with nine counts of indecent assault and four of making indecent images of children.

The charges come as part of Operation Yewtree into historical sexual abuse following the Jimmy Saville scandal.

Harris is set to appear at Westminster Magistrates September 23.

Officers had travelled to Australia during the investigation into Harris 83.

"Metropolitan Police officers have travelled to Australia in connection with Operation Yewtree," a Scotland Yard spokesman confirmed.

Harris is one of 12 people arrested in connection with Operation Yewtree to date.

Harris's last public appearance came at the Wickham Festival.

“Just before I go any further I would just like to thank you all for my support...for your support,” the Australian entertainer told the festival audience.

"I didn’t say it very well, but you know what I mean. Thank you for your support, I will always wear it.”
