Mitch Winehouse has asked Girls Aloud star Sarah Harding to be an ambassador for the Amy Winehouse Foundation to help young people with addictions.

Mitch Winehouse has asked Girls Aloud star Sarah Harding to be an ambassador for the Amy Winehouse Foundation to help young people with addictions.

Harding, 29, was admitted to rehab in the US earlier this month after because of problems with “alcohol and depression” following her split with DJ Tom Crane.

Mitch, who started the Amy Winehouse Foundation after his daughter died after a fight with drink and drugs, believes celebrities like Sarah can make a difference by speaking about their experiences.

Mitch said: “If we could pick Sarah up when she recovers and put her in front of a school assembly to tell those kids the reality of drinking and alcoholism, it would be making a big start.

"Sarah will be ideal, but all in good time when she has faced her own problems.

"There might be some kids who actually take notice of what she has to say."

Cheryl Cole has also invited Harding to come and stay with her in Los Angeles when she completes rehab.

Since Amy died, aged 27, the Foundation has made three donations of £10,000 to organisations including charity Hopes and Dreams, which gives holidays to ill children, as well as children’s hospices Littlehaven’s in Essex and Chestnut Tree House in Sussex.

Amy Winehouse was found dead at her home in Camden in July, but an inquest failed to find a cause of death.

The inquest will open again on Wednesday.
