A second student injured in the October 19 nightclub crush at the Lava Ignite club has died in the hospital.

Laurene Daniel Jackson, 19, was taken to the hospital after being injured in a stampede at the Northampton club. She died on Sunday in Leicester.

Jackson was a student from Wembley, in north-west London.

Nabila Nanfuka, 22, died in the Northampton general hospital shortly after being crushed at the club. An inquest last month revealed that Nanfuka, a leisure and tourism student at Northampton University, died of traumatic crush asphyxia when 1,000 people rushed to leave the club.

A third student, 21-year-old from London, also sustained critical crush injuries that night but was released from hospital on 25 October.

Witnesses reported that people rushed into a corridor towards the exit after an announcement was made that coaches to taking the club-goers home were leaving.

Luminar, the company that ran the venue, released a statement on Monday: "Everyone at Lava Ignite is devastated to hear of the second tragic loss of life following the incident that occurred during the early hours of Wednesday 19 October at the Lava Ignite nightclub in Northampton.

'The club management and staff continue to co-operate fully with the local police to find out exactly what happened. Our thoughts are with the family of all those involved at this time.'

Lava Ignite had its licence suspended before an announcement last week that the club and 10 others across the UK were to close.

Northamptonshire police have made one arrest, a club promoter on suspicion of a public order offence.

A police inquiry continues.
