Benton, the labrador YouTube sensation, is actually called Fenton.

The 47 second YouTube video, which has been viewed by over 700,000 after being posted last week by 37-year-old Ali Goodyear and his 13-year-old son Jake, shows a man chasing his dog who has gotten loose in pursuit of a herd of deer in London's Richmond Park.

The owner can be heard screaming his dog's name which thousands of YouTube viewers and fans have mistakenly deemed "Benton."

In his radio interview this morning, Ali Goodyear said "It's not Benton, it's Fenton with an F."

Father and son went to the park last Sunday because of the teenager's love of animals. Jake was filming the herd of deer when Fenton (with owner in tow) appeared.

Goodyear said: "We were filming the deer and all of a sudden this man came from behind us and was agitated to say the least because he had lost control of his dog.

"The dog chased after the deer and I think the owner feared he would never see his pet again."

He added: "The deer scattered everywhere and went across the road. The dog then disappeared into the woods."

Goodyear has been inundated with requests to appear on television shows around the world.

He said: "I've been inundated with people from CBS, CNN, Good Morning America, German Newspapers — I don't know what to do — I might get Max Cliffod on it!"

On Tuesday, "Benton" was the highest British trending issue on Twitter.

Fenton's owner has yet to be identified. Despite his dog's fame, the folly could result in persecution.

A spokesman for The Royal Parks said dog walkers must keep their pets under strict control "or risk persecution."

The charity Friends of Richmond Park estimate that uncontrolled dogs kill on average six deer in Richmond Park each year.
