According to a new study, one in ten Brits think that a trip to the Moon would take less time than flying to the land Down Under.

In fact, it's the equivalent of 25 one-way trips to Australia from the UK - nearly 250,000 miles.

40 per cent of those who polled expressed that they'd choose a tour of space over a holiday in Spain.

"The public has many misconceptions about space travel, some of the most common being how far we are away from the moon or the sun," said Dr Jon Scott, a space physiologist.

The poll was conducted by Lynx Deep Space.
