Canadian band Walk Off The Earth have created a YouTube smash by gathering the whole band around to play just one acoustic guitar.

The video for the song "Somebody That I Used To Know" has been viewed millions of times. Ryan Marshall from the band said “We’re pretty pumped. It’s a bit overwhelming right now. It’s an awesome feeling.”

Each member of the band creates a different sound from the instrument, some tapping, and some strumming as they're accompanied by Canadian punk band singer Sarah Blackwood (not to be confused with the English singer from Dubstar of the same name).

The song was given a boost by a tweet from Australian film star Russell Crowe who posted the message “Check out Walk off the Earth’s cover of Somebody That I Used To Know. Brilliant.”

According to the band, the filming took a long time with numerous takes and blistered fingers from repeated strumming.

The song is a cover version - the original featured on the hit teen TV shows Gossip Girl and 90210 and was recorded by Australian/Belgian singer Gotye.
