A vigilante street artist is shaming his local council into carrying out road repairs by spray-painting penises around potholes.

The mysterious dick-pic specialist - who rejoices in the name of 'Wanksy' - has been painting Percy to highlight potentially hazardous potholes on the streets of Bury and Ramsbottom, near Manchester. And it seems to be working, with many potholes hastily filled in within 48 hours of being given the distinctive one-eyed trouser snake treatment.

Wanksy's artistic creations are now making headlines around the world, and have earned him 17,000 followers on his Facebook fan page. The graffiti guerrilla told the Manchester Evening News he had been inspired by the plight of cyclist friends who had been hospitalised due to the appalling state of roads in and around the city.

"I wanted to attract attention to the pothole and make it memorable," he said. "Nothing seemed to do this better than a giant comedy penis. It's also speedy - I don't want to be in the road for a long time. It seems to have become my signature. I just want to make people smile and draw attention to the problem. It seems to be working."

On his Facebook page Wanksy highlights one pothole which had been gaping for eight months - yet disappeared within 48 hours of him popping a pecker round it. The artist claims to use paint which disappears within a couple of weeks, and insists he will continue his cock-assisted crusade in Manchester once he has finished his mushroom-headed mission in Ramsbottom.

But po-faced officials insist Wanksy is guilty of penis crimes. "The actions of this individual are not only stupid but incredibly insulting to local residents," said a spokesperson for Bury Council. "We urge the perpetrator to stop defacing the roads immediately."
