Why did the sea lion cross the road? For a change of scenery and to check out the sights, of course.
A sea lion emerged from the sea in the popular Brazlian beach resort of Balneário Camboriú last weekend, crossing the sandy beach to take a look around town.
The half-ton 3 metre beast, described by some reports as an elephant seal, waddled across the town's busy main ocean boulevard Atlantic Avenue causing chaos and excitement.
Local firefighters and the municipal guard were called to the scene to stop traffic and control the crowds. The street was reportedly closed for 20 minutes as he took his leisurely tour.
Officials threw water on the animal to keep it wet. The sea lion returned to the sea after a 90 minutes on dry land, very obediently making use of the zebra crossing.
