A YouTube user believes he may have found proof of life on the moon, but experts claim there might be a more logical explanation to his discovery.

While looking at images from Google Moon, Wowforreel captured what he believes is an alien figure walking along the surface.

The footage, which can be seen on Google Moon at 27°34’26.35″N 19°36’4.75″W, has been viewed more than two million times in less than a month.

However, MailOnline reported that scientists say the most likely explanation for the sighting is Pareidolia - the brain's response to seeing faces and other significant objects in random stimulus.

Wowforreel started investigating the shadow after receiving an online tip from another web user named Jasenko.

He told UFO Sighting Daily that at first he thought it was something drawn into the picture.

“It is really there, not faked and I have no clue what it is. I found nothing else like it in any of the other craters,” he said.

The images used to create the lunar images come from Nasa, however, the space agency has yet to comment on the footage.
